Connecting AI Apps to Your Account
Use ChatGPT, Claude and Other AI Apps with LeanPBX
You can connect an AI app such as ChatGPT, Claude or Hania to your LeanPBX account and ask it to do things for you in plain language. Ask it to list your extensions, set up a ring group, look up a contact or check your balance. The app signs in as you, so it can only do what your own login can do.
What You Can Ask an App to Do
☎ Phone System
Extensions, voicemail, ring groups, queues, IVRs, time conditions, conferences, call forwarding, announcements, recordings and music on hold.
📞 Numbers and Call Routing
Search for and buy numbers, choose where calls go and view a number's call flow.
🤖 AI Voice Agents
Create and tune agents, manage their knowledge and tools, assign numbers and review their calls.
👥 CRM
Contacts, companies, deals, tasks, notes, pipelines and workflow rules.
💬 SMS
Read conversations, reply and send new messages.
📊 Account and Reports
Your balance, billing, call rates, users, support tickets, the dashboard and call reports.
What an app can do depends on your plan and your user's permissions, exactly as in the dashboard.
Before You Start
You need an AI app that supports custom connectors. These apps connect to other services using an open standard called MCP. The address for LeanPBX is https://www.leanpbx.com/mcp.
Connect Claude
Open Connectors
In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors.
Add LeanPBX
Click Add custom connector, enter https://www.leanpbx.com/mcp, then click Add.
Connect
Click Connect. Sign in to LeanPBX if you're asked to, then click Allow.
Connect ChatGPT
Open Plugins
In ChatGPT, open Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins).
Add a Custom Server
Select the plus button and choose Add custom MCP server.
Enter the Details
Enter a name, such as LeanPBX, and the address https://www.leanpbx.com/mcp, then follow the steps to create it.
Allow Access
Sign in to LeanPBX if you're asked to, then click Allow.
Connect Hania
Open MCP Servers
In the Hania console, open MCP Servers and choose Connect custom.
Enter the Address
Enter https://www.leanpbx.com/mcp, choose OAuth as the sign-in method and connect.
Authorize
Click Authorize, sign in to LeanPBX if you're asked to, then click Allow.
The Approval Screen
Before an app is connected, LeanPBX shows you the app's name and the website it will return you to. It also lists what the app is asking for:
Click Allow to connect the app or Deny to cancel. Only allow apps you trust, and only when you started the connection yourself.
Some Actions Cost Money
Buying a phone number, sending SMS, changing your plan and topping up from a saved card are charged to your account just as they are in the dashboard. LeanPBX tells apps which actions change or delete something, so a well-behaved app will check with you first.
Things That Stay in the Dashboard
For your security, some things can only be done in the dashboard:
An app can still top up your balance from a payment method you've already saved. When an app needs a file, such as a call recording or an invoice, it gets a download link that works for 10 minutes.
Seeing and Disconnecting Apps
Go to System > Connected Apps in the sidebar. You'll see each app, its access (Read only or Read and change), when it was connected and when it was last used. Click Disconnect to remove an app's access straight away. You can also remove LeanPBX from the app's own settings.
Good to Know
An app can make up to 60 requests a minute. If it goes over, LeanPBX asks it to wait a moment. If your account is suspended for an unpaid balance, connected apps stop working until you add funds. If you're building your own integration rather than using an AI app, create an API key under System > API Keys instead.
